Sawubona is a Zulu Phrase that means “I See You” - often in society we’re watched but rarely seen.

As we wander around on our cell phones it’s amazing we see anyone at all.  The mentoring program that I’ve volunteered at for over 15 years, Youth Mentoring, is based off of Sawubona and focusing on seeing people’s gifts.

My whole career I’ve specialized in new music discovery and connecting with artists early on. I’ve always had strong relationships and connection to community. How do you put a value on relationships? It was only this year that I realized how in parallel my music career path and my mentoring path were aligned. They are both about “seeing people’s gifts”.

My favorite thing about discovering artists isn’t their single.... it’s seeing ‘the artist who is an artist’ in every sense of the word.
